Box Out CancerSan Francisco, Calif. (April 12, 2017) – Ben Shapiro, Founder & CEO of local sports sponsorship agency PIVOT Agency, announces his candidacy for and participation in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Bay Area Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign.

Ben’s goal is to raise $500,000 in donation to fund local blood cancer research grants. His fundraising campaign, Box Out Cancer, will last 10 weeks, ending on June 3, 2017. Fundraising efforts will include an online auction of experiential opportunities through Charity Buzz in addition to personal outreach.

Ben’s participation in the Man & Woman of the Year campaign is inspired by his father, Michael Shapiro, who passed from Acute Myeloid Leukemia in March, 2017. Ben speaks of his motivation in the campaign saying, “I couldn’t help my dad through the power of medicine, so I have decided to do all I can to further medical research and find cures through this campaign.”

Since 2015, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested $29.3 million dollars into research in the Bay Area alone, and additional resources into patient access programs for patients receiving treatments to cover their therapies or costs associated with transportation. LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research since inception. Over that time, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled. Cures have been found for certain blood cancers, and many therapies first approved for blood cancers are now helping patients with other types of cancers and serious diseases. This is in large part to the contributions of Man & Woman of the Year candidates.
